Thomas Brakel

Thomas M. Brakel, MD, MBA brings more than two decades of investment and healthcare industry experience, with deep expertise in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.
Mr. Brakel served as Senior Portfolio Manager for the Federated Hermes Kaufmann Funds from 2003 to 2026, where he focused primarily on biotechnology and pharmaceutical investments. Earlier in his investment career, he was a biotechnology and pharmaceutical analyst at New Vernon Associates, BioPharma Fund and Mehta Partners.
Prior to entering investment management, Mr. Brakel spent six years at Organon Inc., where he held a range of roles in the U.S. pharmaceutical business. He earned his medical degree from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and an MBA from Stanford University.
